Malaysia had a trade surplus of 184.8 billion last year

Deputy Minister of International and Industry Dato’ Lim Ban Hong pointed out that last year’s trade surplus rebounded in the second half of the year due to the export sector, reaching RM184.79 billion, a 26.9% increase.

The related trade surplus was the largest ever, and also recorded four consecutive years of double-digit growth, mainly due to the resumption of operations in various sectors, as well as the gradual increase in external demand.

In addition, Malaysia’s trade surplus in January 2021 reached RM89.63 billion, an increase of 6.6% over the same period last year, as exports-maintained growth in the past six months.

In terms of the Medium Enterprise Development Program (MEDP), the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) has been organizing the MEDP through the Malaysian Foreign Trade Development since 2014 and so far 275 medium enterprises have participated with an export value of RM4.9 billion.

The companies concerned were given guidance to identify their export priorities and problems, and then special plans were set up to address these situations.
